MH Transit waives fares

Medicine Hat Transit waiving fares

Mar 30, 2020 | 3:45 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The city will be suspending transit fares indefinitely in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective immediately, no payment will be required for both regular and special transit passengers.

All regular transit passengers will be allowed to enter buses through the rear door with front door access limited to those with mobility issues.

Starting next week, weekday bus schedules will alternate to the Saturday schedule with weekends shifting to the Sunday schedule.

Individuals who have already purchased transit passes for April will be able to use them for a month following the reinstatement of fares.

Increased cleaning and disinfecting of buses is also taking place and Medicine Hat Transit is asking riders to maintain social distancing protocols at bus shelters and on the vehicles themselves.

Those using transit services should only do so for travel to and from work, grocery shopping and medical appointments, according to the city.
