Local doctor offices and appointments during COVID-19 precautions

Mar 24, 2020 | 4:20 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Local doctor offices are still open to serve their patients amid COVID-19 precautions, but there may be some changes.

Executive Director of the Palliser Primary Care Network Treena Klassen says most clinics are still operating for their regular family practice patients, but the visit type may have changed.

So it might be an over the phone visit rather than face to face. She says to phone your regular clinic to see what they’re doing.

In terms of walk-in clinics, most have some availability but it’s changing on a fairly regular basis.

“So we’ve updated the walk-in clinic hours and which ones are open on our website. That’s current as of today March 24th. And in an ongoing way, we’ll be updating it twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. And making sure our website is current on those dates and they’ll be date stamps so people know the last time it was updated.”

Klassen says many clinics are screening patients over the phone for symptoms prior to their appointment.

And asking patients to wait in their vehicle instead of waiting rooms.

Patients are also encouraged to phone their clinic and ask directly what the process is for regular visits during this time.
