Over 2 hour wait time at Coutts, AB border crossing

Mar 20, 2020 | 6:50 PM

COUTTS, AB – It’s a long wait to get back home for those crossing the border at the Coutts Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) before restrictions take place tonight amid COVID-19 precautions.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the mutual decision by Canada and the United States to close their shared border to non-essential travel will take effect at midnight Friday.

The Coutts, AB/Sweet Grass MT border crossing is witnessing a 2 hour and 15 minutes worth of traveller flow according to the government’s website.

That’s currently the longest wait time of the major Canada/U.S border crossings that are open 24 hours.

Meantime, commercial flow is 25 minutes at Coutts.

The shared border closure will still allow truckers hauling freight, health professionals and others who live on one side and work on the other.
