Brooks officials caution people against rumours

Area officials issue message about danger of spreading false COVID information

BROOKS, AB. — Brooks-Medicine Hat MLA Michaela Glasgo has endorsed a message from area authorities about the danger of spreading or sharing false or unconfirmed information during the COVID 19 outbreak.

The authors, which include the mayor of Brooks and the Reeve of the County of Newell, say spreading rumors and speculation do nothing except cause fear and panic, putting more stress and anxiety and more pressure on the healthcare system.

They say that experts and officials must not be wasting time chasing down false leads or responding to rumours — they should be working collaboratively to make decisions with correct information in the best interest of the community.

The message directs people to refer to government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services for up to date and reliable information.
