OTTAWA – The message from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Tuesday morning stressed the need for Canadians to stay safe by enacting social distancing practises and to help their neighbours by doing so.

“Canada, let’s work together,” said Trudeau from the front lawn of his official residence in Ottawa where he is in self-isolation following his wife’s diagnosis with COVID-19.

“Stay home. Don’t go out unless you absolutely have to,” said Trudeau.

Details of domestic aid packages weren’t yet available – but they’re coming, said the prime minister, with more information coming later this week.

What aid was announced was a $5,000 loan program for Canadian travellers who require financial assistance to either get back to the country or shelter in place.

Additionally, when it comes to Parks Canada facilities, “anything with a door will be closed,” said Trudeau.
