Alberta courts feel effect of COVID-19 pandemic

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Alberta courts will be rolling back some of its services in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench will only be holding emergency or urgent matters in which there are serious consequences to individuals or harm to others and property is involved.

Emergency matters include family issues where there is a risk of violence or removal of a child from the jurisdiction or reviews of emergency protection orders. Civil matters pertaining to the pandemic, injunctions involving end of life matters and other pertinent issues. It also includes detention and bail reviews, wiretap and production orders as well hearings in which the accused is in pre-trial custody.

In provincial court, first appearances for traffic court are suspended until further notice.
