Travois Ale Works gives local artists space to shine

MEDICINE HAT, AB– Craft beer and art lovers have been enjoying quite the view this month at a local brewery.

Travois Ale Works, located downtown, kicked off their artist display initiative last week.

General manager of the brewery, George Best says this program is a great way to allow people to come in and enjoy the pieces and also give some exposure to artists in the city.

“I saw a program like this a few years ago that support the artist’s lots. I just thought it would be good to give back to the community. A lot of places want people’s art and like them.”

This month’s featured artist is local virtuoso is J. Rhys Sept. Never having displayed his pieces in front of anyone before, he was initially hesitant to share his passion with the community, but has been overwhelmed by the positive comments he’s received. He says he is glad that people are resonating with his unique, abstract style.

“I put myself out there which was a very scary thing. And now the experience is fantastic and I recognize the importance of these little programs.”

Sept also wants to encourage young minds or anyone who may be lacking confidence in their craft not to give up on what they’re passionate about.

“I really try to encourage others to find their voice, find what they’re passionate about and just keep that part of them. That’s what makes everyone unique.”

His work can be seen along the walls of the main floor at Travois until the end of the month.
