MEDICINE HAT AB,- With new measures put in place, closing schools, public recreation facilities and limiting large gatherings, the Medicine Hat Judo Club is taking an innovative approach to get kids and adults active in the wake of COVID-19.

Starting Wednesday March 18 the studio will be offering COVID-19 safe classes.

The classes will be on Monday and Wednesday nights and will be live streamed on their Facebook page, Medicine Hat Judo.

Classes for children ages six through 12 will begin at 6p.m. and for those ages 12 to adult
classes will begin at 8p.m.

“With the cancellations of schools we are going to have a whole bunch of kids with nothing to do, and it started off as a service to our own members but we’d like to extend it to the rest of the community,” said Donovan Hoggan, president of the Medicine Hat Judo Club.

“A big part of the ethics of Judo is not just to compete in a sport but to make the world a better place,” Hoggan added.

Hoggan said he hopes to maintain the online classes until it is deemed safe to resume regular classes. He also said hopes other sport organizations follow suit to keep the community active.
