Behind the curtain, the music and the singing is Sherry and Gord Nott.

Married for 57 years, their love story, much like the performances at the Rotary Music Festival is one meant for the stage.

The couple knew each other as kids in church and it was Sherry who made the first move.

“I was invited to her grade nine graduation….and the rest is history,” said Gord Nott.

The two married when Gord was just 20 and year after year they volunteer at the Rotary Music Festival—the same festival the couple performed at as kids in Medicine Hat.

“I grew up with Rotary, I’ve been a musician, a piano, and voice teacher my whole life,” said Sherry Nott.

Now, step into the college theatre and Sherry can often be seen at the adjudicators table, while Gord can often be seen using his wit, charm and friendly demeanor at the doors.

“He greets people, makes them feel comfortable, and then I work with the adjudicators so we don’t actually work, together.”

Asked if that’s the secret to the successful partnership.

” Probably…probably is, ” laughed Sherry Nott.

The couple agrees that through their 57 years of marriage not all was easy.

“Many people feel she deserves a medal for hanging out with me for that length of time,” joked Gord Nott.

But together mended by music and love , the two remain committed, to providing children an outlet to perform and to each other.
