LETHBRIDGE — A 29-year old man faces several charges in connection with an assault on a security guard.

Just after 6:00 on Tuesday (Mar 3) morning, LPS responded to a report that a security guard working at the Supervised Consumption Site was assaulted by a client.

An investigation determined that security guard approached a man in the waiting area, after the man was witnessed beginning to inject himself.

As drug use is only permitted in the consumption area, the man was directed to stop. The man became agitated and shot the contents of the syringe including blood and other fluids, into the security guard’s face before being taken into custody.

The 22-year-old security guard was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. However, he will require ongoing treatment as a result of the exposure.

Police arrested the suspect at the SCS and seized the syringe.

Wade Allan Nicholas Cross Child, is charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

Cross Child was initially released with numerous conditions but within an hour was re-arrested in connection with a theft. He is currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing and is scheduled to appear in court May 26, on the assault charges.
