Overnight fire in Red Deer County claims one life

Feb 28, 2020 | 11:00 AM

It’s believed that a young child has tragically died following a fire early Friday morning in Red Deer County.

The fire affected three homes in the Westview Estates mobile home park (formerly Les’s Trailer Park) just west of the QEII.

Emergency crews responded around 2 a.m. after receiving 911 calls, and upon arrival evacuated neighbouring properties.

Four people — an adult male, adult female and two male children — were taken to hospital, some with life-threatening injuries.

Red Deer County Fire Services continued to manage the fires throughout the early morning hours until they could be fully extinguished.

RCMP were advised by fire personnel at around 9 a.m. that one occupant, believed to be a seven-year-old girl, was located deceased. A search of the structures continues.

Blackfalds RCMP continue to investigate this incident with the assistance of investigators from the Red Deer County Fire Services.

STARS Air Ambulance flew one person to hospital in Calgary, but the extent of that person’s injuries are still unknown. Crews from Sylvan Lake, Blackfalds and Red Deer also responded.

No further information is available at this time.
