Motz one of four Alberta MPs backing Buffalo Declaration

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat MP Glen Motz is one of four Alberta parliamentarians who have signed onto the Buffalo Declaration seeking greater recognition for the province in Confederation.

The document released on Thursday afternoon outlines a number of provincial grievances, challenges and solutions on a range of issues from recognizing Alberta is not an equal member of Canada to the devastation of the National Energy Program to the need for better political representation.

“Our federation has reached a crossroads at which Canada must decide to move forward in equity and respect,” reads the declaration, “or people in our region will look at independence from Confederation as the solution.”

In a Friday morning release, Motz stated he believes in a united Canada based on fairness.

“In order to repair the cracks in our federation which threaten that unity, immediate action must be taken to permanently correct structural inequalities that are the cause of the disconnect between Alberta and the power class in eastern Canada,” read the statement in part.

The three other Conservative Party signatories of the declaration are Calgary-Nose Hill MP Michelle Rempel Garner, Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards and Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen.

Alberta has a total of 34 MPs of which 33 are Conservative Party members.
