MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat police have charged a third man in connection with a theft from a jewelry story last week.

Shane Yanke, 43, has been charged with break and enter to a business and committing theft over $5,000, wearing a disguise to commit an indictable offence, possession of stolen property for the purpose of trafficking over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and trafficking in stolen property over $5,000.

Police says Gold Pro Jewellers on 13th Avenue Southeast was broken into early Monday after the windows were smashed. Several rings and earrings, with an estimated value of $39,000, were stolen from the store.

On Friday, police arrested Kris Hansen, 37 and Jessica Ott, 23, and charged the pair with possession of stolen property under $5,000 in connection with the offence.

Yanke was remanded into custody, and appears in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Thursday.

Hansen has been in custody since his arrest last week and will appear in provincial court on February 27. Ott was released with conditions, and is scheduled to appear on March 25.

The Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate, and say more charges could be laid. According to a release from police, only a portion of the stolen jewelry has been recovered.
