LEDUC COUNTY, AB — A worker injured in a workplace incident at an Amazon warehouse under construction last week has passed away, CHAT News has confirmed.

Colton Quast, 25, passed away Wednesday morning surrounded by friends, family and his fiance, according to a post from his mother on Facebook.

Quast was injured in a workplace incident in Nisku on February 13. According to Global News, he was taken to hospital after getting electrocuted while working on the site. According to a GoFundMe page set up to support his fiance, Quast was placed in a medically-induced coma.

Quast was an employee of A Circuit Electric Ltd.

The GoFundMe Page has surpassed its initial $20,000 goal, with $25,715 being raised as of noon on Wednesday.

The province’s Occupational Health and Safety Board is investigating. According to Brittany Blairmore, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Immigration, OHS has issued a “stop use order to prime contractor Dawson Wallace Construction Ltd. for the electrical cabinet involved in the incident.”

Blairmore says the order will stay in place until the cabinet is examined and deemed to be in safe operating condition by an engineer. No other stop-work orders have been issued.
