Feb 16, 2020 | 1:15 PM

CANMORE, AB – The Brooks Bandits used four powerplay goals and a strong goaltending performance from Pierce Charleson to their advantage, skating to a 5-1 victory over the Eagles Saturday night at the Canmore Rec Centre.

The win, coupled with a 3-1 Okotoks loss to Drumheller, means Brooks (43-9-2) is only four points back of the 1st place Oilers. Brooks has four games remaining, Okotoks has three.

After the opening 16 minutes were scoreless, the Bandits got on the board first. Forward Chris Pappas (Toronto, ON) scored on a breakaway, shooting five-hole on Eagle starter Devin Chapman at 16:06. Then, at 17:04, defenceman Tim Rego (Mansfield, MA) scored on the powerplay, scoring shoreside and close to the net.

The Bandits began the 2nd period with a four minute powerplay after Canmore was called for a double minor for high sticking. Captain Jakob Lee (Owen Sound, ON) fired in a goal at 1:36, and then 11 seconds later forward James McIsaac (Winnipeg, MB) scored from the slot to make it 4-0 Bandits. The Eagles got one back at 9:58, as Ethan Schaeffer scored on a rebound, which was their only goal of the night.

Brooks made it 5-1 in the 3rd period as Brayden Krieger (Elora, ON) tipped in a Ryan McAllister (London, ON) point shot at 10:20, the final score.

Brooks went 4/6 on the powerplay, and for the 4th straight game, had a perfect penalty kill at 4/4. Final shots were 41-22 Bandits.

The Bandits return home on Monday, February 17th for their annual Family Day Game, presented by Bevan & Partners. Everyone under the age of 18 receives free admission, and immediately following the game is the free Skate with the Bandits.

Game time is 4:00 PM, visit tickets.brooksbandits.ca for more information.
