LETHBRIDGE, AB – UPDATE 12 P.M. – Lethbridge Police are still looking for those connected with an apparent homicide in the 200 blk. of University Drive West. The bi-level home brown and white home is surrounded by yellow tape; officers are scouring both the inside and outside of the property.

Insp. Jason Walper says they received a call just after 10:30 p.m. from someone in the home, indicating multiple shots had been fired. When police attended, they found a 35-year-old man dead inside the house. No one else inside the home was injured.

“The male’s body is currently in the process of being transported to the medical examiner’s office in Calgary for an autopsy later today,” he said.

Lethbridge Police Inspector Jason Walper

Walper says the deceased man, whose name has not been released, is known to police, as is the property where the shooting occurred. It’s not clear whether the man lived in the home or was visiting.

“I do know that the deceased has been dealt with by police in the past…we have had occurrences at this home in the past, yes.”

Police say there is no danger to the public at this time, however a link between the home where the man was killed and another home on Henderson Lake Blvd. has been established.

“(It’s) very early in our investigation. I’m not at liberty to say exactly how we’ve gotten there, but certainly we’re following up on our investigation that we’ve determined to date, and our officers are there and will probably be there for some time.”

Police can’t release any information regarding how the suspect and the deceased man knew one another. They’re speaking with several witnesses. Police won’t say at this point either, whether the incident was drug related or what the motive for the shooting may have been.

“We’re working and we’re interviewing many people that we believe may have a piece of the puzzle. At this point we’re trying to determine who has valuable information for us that will help push this investigation forward.”

Police expect there to be additional updates for the public as the investigation progresses.

8:00 A.M. – Lethbridge Police are on scene of two residences in the city, investigating what they’re calling an apparent homicide.

LPS says they responded to a residence along the 200 block of University Drive West at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night (February 6).

Upon arrival, officers found the body of a 35-year-old male inside the home. The preliminary investigation by the Criminal Investigation Section has determined that the incident was not random, and the individuals involved are known to one another, according to a release from the LPS.

Police remain on scene at the residence, as well as at a second residence along Henderson Lake Boulevard. LPS says there is “no evidence to suggest any ongoing risk to neighbours or the public at either location”.

The male’s body is set to be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary for an autopsy later today. The LPS says no further details will be released at press time as the investigation continues.
