Wind and snow warnings posted for mountains and foothills regions of Alberta

CALGARY — Environment Canada has weather warnings posted along Alberta’s western border with B.C.

The Banff and Jasper national parks are under a winter storm warning, with amounts between 30 and 50 centimeters possible and even as high as 70 centimeters in some places.

Wind warnings are posted for foothills areas including Cardston and Magrath.

A few weather stations in extreme southwestern Alberta reported gusts overnight as high as 161 kilometers per hour.

Forecasters say west wind gusting to 120 are possible in the daylight hours before diminishing later this morning.

But wind gusts up to 100 kilometers per hour are forecast for foothills regions in southwestern Alberta tomorrow.
