GAME NOTES: Tigers look to make up ground in Central Division tilt with Oil Kings

EDMONTON, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers extended their winning streak to four games by defeating the Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-2 Saturday night at the Canalta Centre. Captain James Hamblin had a four goal night including a natural hat trick in the first period. The Tigers are 29-12-1-1 and they are led by Hamblin with 68 points (27G, 41A). Sunday afternoon the orange and black will take on the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place.

Tigers vs. Oil Kings

Sunday afternoon will be the fourth meeting between these two Central Division rivals this season. In their last contest, the Oil Kings won 7-1 December 14th. The Tigers are 1-2-0-0 against the Oil Kings this season. Over the past five years, Medicine Hat is 14-5-2-0 against Edmonton and 6-4-0-0 when playing at Rogers Place. Captain James Hamblin is the Tabbies’ leading scorer against the Oil Kings with 5 points (2G, 3A) in 3 games played. After Sunday, the Tigers and the Oil Kings will meet two more times this season, Feb 15th in Edmonton and March 7th in Medicine Hat.

The Edmonton Oil Kings hosted the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night and fell 2-1 in overtime. The Oil Kings are 29-7-6-3 and they are led by veteran forward Riley Sawchuk with 52 points (16G, 36A). After Sunday afternoon’s battle with the Tigers, the Oil Kings will travel to Saskatchewan to take on the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday, the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday and the Saskatoon Blades Saturday.

Dylan Plouffe is a veteran defenceman acquired by the Tigers in early December. “Dylan is a very talented defender who skates well, thinks the game at a high level and has a great shot. He has the offensive ability to run our power play and also takes pride in his defensive game, which allows him to shut down other teams’ top lines. Dylan has been a great addition to our backend and has added great leadership as well,” said assistant coach Joe Frazer

Captain James Hamblin is third in the league for scoring with 68 points, he is tied in fourth in the league for goals with 27 and he is third in the league for assists with 41. The 20-year-old Edmonton product is a wily veteran who leads his team by example with his hard work and dedication. Look for Hamblin to make an impact on both ends of the ice on Sunday.
