Chocolates, cookies, gummies, hard candies, and tea -these are some cannabis edibles that arrived in Medicine Hat Friday.

There’s been a hype around edibles coming to Alberta this week, and a local retailer says it’s nice to see new products hitting the market.

Nicholaus Keelan-Albert sales associate with The Green Exchange says, “I feel like there have been a couple of restrictions that AGLC and Health Canada has put on it like the minimal restriction for THC which I think will be kinda a hard thing to get past for some people but it also opens up the market to a whole nother area of people to try it out, like new timers and people that don’t want to get overly baked but just enjoy a little bit of a buzz.”

According to the AGLC, retailers across the province were able to put in their edible orders last Monday.

The AGLC says there’s limited product right now, but that’s on par with the brand new line of products coming out. Adding, consumers will see an increase in product over the coming weeks and months.

Additionally, they say licensed producers are still going through approvals with Health Canada to get authorization to start manufacturing products.

Meantime, consumers are reminded to read product labels to avoid over consumption.

According to AGLC spokesperson Heather Holemen,“The effects of edibles and oils may take between 30 minutes to 2 hours to start feeling the effects. And it can take up to 4 hours to feel the full effects and it can last for over 12 hours.”

Holeman says beverage products are expected to come down in the next couple of weeks.

There are 12 licensed cannabis stores in Medicine Hat and 397 retailers across the province.
