Over 100 quilts being sewed by staff at Mook Fabrics for Ronald McDonald House

MEDICINE HAT, AB -Families and children who have a stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Medicine Hat will be cozy with the warmth of a quilt that’s been made with love.

Mook Fabrics is just shy of sewing 100 homemade quilts that will then be donated to the house.

Additionally, they have another 85 quilt tops that are ready to be quilted.

Retail Manager Barbara Smith says the project exploded with the help of the community.

“Customers started coming in and offering a helping hand. We had way too much fabric that we could sew for ourselves. So customers started helping to make quilt tops and finishing quilts and right now we have 93 completed.”

Smith says, in the beginning, she thought they would get 15-20 quilts, but the company came on side and helped with fabric donations.

Mook Fabrics plans to donate the completed quilts to the Ronald McDonald House at the end of February.

They will continue to quilt the next 100 and expect to make that donation later this fall.

A spring 2020 opening is slated for the Ronald Mcdonald House.
