MEDICINE HAT, AB — If you’ve driven past the Saamis Teepee in the past month, you’ve likely noticed some new construction going up in the area.

Now, as the building begins to take shape, the developer of the new project has provided more information about the project, called Badlands View.

“The thought behind it is to try to get it so the community people, family and friends can connect and be under one roof,” said Brendon Hamilton, a developer of the project.

The development, located between the Teepee and the Visitor Information Centre, includes 36,000 square feet of space for office, retail, a gymnasium and a restaurant with a rooftop patio.

Hamilton says he believes the location is ideal for both residents of Medicine Hat and those passing through.

“When we did some studies, over 40,000 vehicles come by here daily, so there’s definitely a lot of traffic by this way,” he said. “It’s close to the college, close to the centre of the city. I think we’re in a really good spot that it’s easy for people that are from the city to get here, or people travelling through, going by our city, an easy place to stop in, have some fun, have some friends.”

Hamilton says half of the available space has already been leased.

The current plan is to have the facility completely open by the summer of 2020.
