Preliminary hearing for 2019 murder suspect being held this week

Medicine Hat, AB – A year ago less a week, the lifeless body of 24-year-old June Rose was recovered from a residence in Bassano.

On Monday, the preliminary hearing for her partner accused in the second-degree death of the B.C. native opened.

Medicine Hatter Chase Leland Hehr, 37, is accused of the murder of the woman with a four-day preliminary hearing being heard at the city’s provincial court to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.

Details of the evidence heard at the preliminary hearing is currently subject to a publication ban.

Police reported that on Jan. 22, 2019 they had attended a Bassano residence where they found Rose dead.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit as well as Mounties from both the Bassano and Brooks detachments took part in the investigation which culminated in murder charges being laid against Hehr on Jan. 25, 2019.

Hehr was taken into custody at the time he was arrested on the murder allegation.
