UPDATE: Lockdown lifted at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute

Dec 13, 2019 | 11:37 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – UPDATE (11:30 am): The lockdown has been lifted. Students will be dismissed on time today. Lethbridge Police have confirmed that one person is in custody.

Original Story:

The Lethbridge School Division is reporting that LCI is on lockdown Friday morning.

It was posted to the Division’s Facebook page just after 11:00 am.

The division says there is an active police present at the school and they are following school protocol and safety measures.

The lockdown was issued “as a result of a threat”, but the school board did not clarify what the threat was.

“Students will not be released from the school until Lethbridge police has given us direction to do so,” reads a media release from Lethbridge School Division.

“Once we are informed by Lethbridge police to lift the lockdown, we will post that information on the Lethbridge School Division website and social media accounts.”

Given that this is a current investigation, the Division is asking that members of the public refrain from contacting the school.

Updates will be posted on the Lethbridge School Division’s website and social media accounts as they become available.
