Local outdoors outfitters announces closure

Medicine Hat, AB – Since opening their doors, Valhalla Pure Outfitters has been a favourite for locals looking for camping gear or a pair of new hiking boots.

Despite that, the outdoor clothing and gear store announced this weekend that they would be closing their doors at the end of the month.

Owner Michael Harrington says that he is hopeful that people will come in and take advantage of the closing sale.

“One of the things I think a lot of people feel is ‘I couldn’t really afford to shop there, I didn’t really support that store so I don’t want to go in now and pick their bones over.’ Please come and pick our bones over. We all need your support,” he continued. “If we’re closing we need your support more then ever. And if we’re open we obviously need your support. I stretched as far as I could.”

Harrington is also hopeful that this serves as a reminder for Medicine Hat to check in on local stores.

“We do have some really great businesses in town. The easy one to think about is restaurants. You find that little restaurants that’s the mom and pop where they do things differently and you really enjoy it,” said Harrington. “I’m partial to the little independents like me. So hopefully when people see a business close that they think about ‘oh yeah it’s been a while since I did a mercy purchase over there and bought a pair of socks or a coffee from wherever.”

Harrington says he would like to be able to close for Christmas eve.
