LETHBRIDGE, AB – Five people have been charged following a stabbing in Lethbridge last week.

On Thursday, December 5 at around 11:30 p.m., police say a resident heard “a commotion” in the alley along the 200 block of Mayor Magrath Drive North. The witness saw a group of people running away.

The witness then heard someone calling for help and discovered a 16-year-old teen boy who had been stabbed. The victim was taken to hospital in Lethbridge before being transferred to Calgary for treatment of serious injuries.

LPS was able to obtain surveillance footage of the assault and an 18-year-old female was identified as a person of interest. Early Friday morning, police went to the 18-year-old’s home and found multiple people inside. Eight were arrested, including three additional people who arrived in a vehicle.

The police investigation determined that the 16-year-old had made arrangements to meet up with the 18-year-old. Police say the female made plans for a group of her friends to accompany her and confront the 16-year-old.

The female led the male down the alley past where the group of friends was hiding, and they subsequently came up from behind and attacked the 16-year-old.

LPS said the victim was punched, kicked and stabbed multiple times before the assailants fled the scene.

On December 6, police obtained and executed a search warrant at the home. They found evidence of the offence, including the knife that is thought to have been used in the attack.

Police also recovered a stolen vehicle.

18-year-old Trinity Savard, of Lethbridge, has been charged with aggravated assault. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, she was released on a recognizance by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court on January 7, 2020.

Alexander Roxby Strya, a 19-year-old from Lethbridge, is charged with aggravated assault and theft of a vehicle. He’s set to appear in court today, December 9.

A 16-year-old male is charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. Another 16-year-old male faces a charge of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. A 17-year-old male is charged with possession of stolen property (vehicle).

All three youths cannot be named and are set to appear in youth court on January 8, 2020.

The victim remains in hospital with significant injuries. However, his condition is stable.
