Blondin wins, Weidemann takes third in World Cup 5,000m speedskating race
NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan — Ivanie Blondin won gold and fellow Ottawa native Isabelle Weidemann claimed bronze in the women’s 5,000 metres Friday at a World Cup speedskating event.
Blondin captured her first career gold medal in the discipline with a time of six minutes 54.945 seconds, a new track record for the Alau Ice Palace in Nur-Sultan.
Weidemann was third in 6:55.809.
World record holder Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic was second, .05 seconds behind Blondin.
