MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service are looking for a pair of suspects after a man was assaulted in a home in the Flats Monday morning.

According to police, two men forced their way into a home in the 900 block of Second Street Southeast at approximately 7 a.m. Police say one of the suspects sprayed the occupant of the home with bear spray, while the second subject produced an unknown weapon, before the two suspects fled the scene.

The only injuries in the incident were a result of the bear spray, according to the police service’s news release.

The K9 unit was called in to investigate, but the suspects were not located.

Police believe the incident was an isolated incident, and say there is no general risk to public safety.

“These incidents often are isolated, and they are often targeted at a specific person based on, perhaps a debt, or another incident that has happened and this is sort of the follow up, or some type of assault or retribution to get back at the person,” said Staff Sgt. Chad Holt with the Medicine Hat Police Service. “It’s not a general concern for the average citizen of Medicine Hat.”

Holt says one of the suspects is described as a white male, standing approximately six feet, two inches tall, with short blonde hair and a medium build.

The second male had his face covered by a balaclava.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Medicine Hat Police Service at 403-529-8481.
