HANNA, AB — RCMP have officially charged a male in connection with ATM thefts in Oyen and Hanna.

Rick Atzler, 26, was arrested following a police pursuit Sunday that involved officers from multiple detachments, according to a news release from RCMP on Tuesday.

The thefts occurred Saturday, and involved two people ramming a truck through the front entrance of businesses, stealing ATMs and other items.

Atzler is charged with robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, theft over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for police in Hanna.

In Consort, he was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, six firearms charges, and failure to stop for police.

In the release, RCMP says the investigation remains active and charges are pending from the Oyen, Coronation and Provost detachments.

RCMP are also working to identify the second suspect involved. Anyone who was on the road and affected by the pursuit on Sunday is asked to call Hanna RCMP at 403-854-3393.

Atzler remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court in Oyen on Thursday and in Coronation on Friday.
