Vehicle thieves from Red Deer arrested following police chase near Drumheller

Nov 25, 2019 | 5:04 PM

Two vehicles from Red Deer were arrested last week after leading Mounties on a chase in the Drumheller area.

It was on Thursday when Mounties were notified about a vehicle had just been stolen from Carbon (140 kilometres southeast of Red Deer, approx. 36 km west of Drumheller).

Police say that a suspect male driving another stolen vehicle repeatedly drove toward a witness who was trying to intervene with the theft. The male suspect was aiding a female who was stealing the vehicle.

Drumheller RCMP was able to locate the pair in the stolen vehicle shortly after and entered into a pursuit when the vehicle fled from police. Beiseker RCMP joined the pursuit which ended when the stolen vehicle came to a stop near Carbon and both occupants were arrested.

Kevin Leo Gallagher, 35, was wanted on warrants out of Lacombe and was banned at the time of his arrest and now faces additional counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from peace officer, robbery, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (two counts), possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (three counts), theft of a motor vehicle, identity theft, improper use of a licence plate, driving while prohibited, possession of ammunition while prohibited, and breach of recognizance (three counts).

Courtney Darlene Reid, 22, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from peace officer, robbery, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 (two counts), possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (three counts), theft of a motor vehicle, identity theft, and improper use of a licence plate.

Gallagher and Reid were held for a judicial interim release hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.

With the cold weather upon us, Drumheller RCMP are reminding the public not to leave their vehicles idling unattended.
