Association calls for dedicated program to fund twinning of Highway 3 in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta did not include any funding for Highway 3 twinning in last month’s budget, but the Highway 3 Twinning Development Association wants to ensure this does not happen in the future.

They are asking the province to create a program that will focus specifically on this project, putting a “minimum cost” of $800,000 per 10 km section for engineering.

“It would be the preference of Highway 3 Twinning Development Association to see the early minimum allocation of $10 Million per year to finalize engineering, utility relocation, right-of-way and environmental impact design along the corridor,” reads a media release from the Highway 3 Twinning Development Association.

“Future funding to be increased, as available, to complete twinning construction in sections over subsequent budget cycles, eventually resulting in a fully twinned Highway 3.”

The Association calls twinning Highway 3 critical for the region as it would help to support new and growing industries that move products across communities, regions, and countries.
