GRANUM, AB – The Town of Granum will soon be no more.

Residents voted to dissolve the municipal government and become part of the Municipal District of Willow Creek.

The results of the vote will be included in a Viability Report that will be reviewed by the Minister of Municipal Affairs, who will make the ultimate decision.

“Should a Ministerial Order for dissolution be issued, we as a Council are prepared to engage the citizens of the Town of Granum through a proactive and positive process which will seek to ensure that the culture, traditions, history and institutions of the community are acknowledged and considered through the decisions that arise through the process of democratic governance,” reads a media release from the M.D. of Willow Creek.

Upon the completion of a ministerial review and order being issued, the Town of Granum and M.D. of Willow Creek will undertake public consultations on public infrastructure, governance and representation, public services, and other institutions.

“The citizens of the Town of Granum are not strangers to us – they are our friends and neighbours.”

Both local governments have committed to working together and making the process and smooth and efficient as possible.
