Students share dangers of impaired driving

MEDICINE HAT, AB —Members of the Students Against Drinking and Driving Club at Crescent Heights High School took their message outside of the classroom Tuesday afternoon.

Approximately 20 members of the club were visible on Maple Avenue, reminding drivers about the dangers of impaired driving.

“We’re just trying to make people conscious so that they don’t drive when they are high or they are drunk, so we are more safe,” said Lucia Blazquez, a Grade 11 involved in the event.

The students carried signs reminding drivers about the dangers of driving while impaired by alcohol or cannabis.

They also wanted to remind motorists that they should always have a plan to get home safe.

“When you know you’re going to drink, or smoke drugs, you need to call someone, your friends, or a taxi, to help you go home,” said Priscilla Mushamuka, a Grade 10 student and member of SADD.

The club plans to be more visible in the coming months as the holidays approach, and work to make Hatters aware of the risks of driving while impaired.
