Mavericks to play in WCBL East Division next season

Oct 29, 2019 | 5:23 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Mavericks will be switching divisions when the Western Canada Baseball League season resumes next summer.

The Mavericks will be playing in the east division, along with the Regina Red Sox, Moose Jaw Miller Express, Swift Current 57s and Weyburn Beavers.

The move was confirmed by the WCBL on Tuesday. The move was made after the Yorkton Cardinals and the Melville Millionaires received league approval to take a one-year leave of absence due to financial issues.

The league is now composed of 10 teams, with the Mavericks’ move east balancing each division.

The team will still face the Lethbridge Bulls and the Brooks Bombers, their closest geographic rivals, four times next season (two home games, two away games).

The league is hoping Yorkton and Melville will return to the WCBL in 2021, along with a new team in Sylvan Lake.
