Hospital workers to hit picket lines today

Oct 28, 2019 | 11:01 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Multiple unions will be picketing outside of Medicine Hat Regional Hospital beginning Monday morning.

Representatives from the United Nurses of Alberta, the Health Sciences Association of Alberta and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees will be outside of the hospital at various times between 11 a.m and 1 p.m.

The three unions represent employees in multiple branches at the hospital, and workers will be raising concerns about health care in the province, along with Bill 9.

Bill 9 was passed by the United Conservative Party earlier this year, and delayed arbitration for wage talks with several unions. AUPE briefly had an injunction put into place to delay the law, which was struck down by the Alberta Court of Appeal in September.
