Bandits take 16th straight win, 8-2 over Drayton Valley

BROOKS, AB – The Brooks Bandits (16-0) continued their season-opening undefeated streak with an 8-2 win over the Drayton Valley Thunder at the Centennial Regional Arena on Friday night.

Rookie forward Sean Chisholm (Caledonia, ON) had his first two-goal night as a Bandit, while Brayden Krieger (Elora, ON) also notched two goals and an assist.

Krieger opened the scoring just 1:06 into the game when a dump in by Jake Lee (Owen Sound, ON) ricocheted off the end wall, then the side of the Thunder, and out in front to the waiting Bandit forward for a quick one-timer goal. Chisholm doubled the lead on a backdoor wrister at 9:04 set up by Pappas, while Jaxsen Wyatt (Edmonton, AB) scored at 17:10, jamming in the rebound of a Taylor Makar (Calgary, AB) chance. On the very next shift, Pappas was stopped on a breakaway, but Chisholm fired home the rebound to make it 4-0.

Kadyn Chabot scored for Drayton Valley just 52 seconds into the second, but TJ Hughes fired a wrister home from the right hash marks at 6:08 to reclaim the four goal lead, which was extended by James McIsaac (Winnipeg, MB) at the 8 minute mark on a shot from the slot. Chabot scored again, firing home his own rebound after a breakaway chance was stopped, at the 13:03 mark to make it 6-2.

The Bandits tallied two power play goals in the third period; the first from Krieger at 5:00 and the second from Devin Phillips (Raleigh, NC) who tipped home a TJ Hughes shot at 7:33.

Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) stopped 13 of 15 shots to extend his record to 13-0.

The Bandits host Spruce Grove on Saturday night in a rematch of last season’s AJHL final. Tickets are available online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca.
