Forever connected; Schultz, Bonogofski graduating with prestigious leadership honours

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Summarizing five years of MHC Rattlers athletics isn’t easy for Ciara Bonogofski.

The memories, the emotions, the adventures. It’s all overwhelming, yet bittersweet for her to reflect on as her college golf career comes to an end, and a new chapter in her life begins.

At least she’s not the only one feeling this way.

Nicole Schultz is joining her, not only in bidding the black and gold farewell, but also as a fellow graduate of Medicine Hat College’s nursing program. Sierra Zukowski has also carded her final college round and is expected to receive her visual communications diploma next spring.

Bonogofski and Schultz will forever share a unique connection, which was made stronger amidst the closing ceremonies of the 2019 CCAA National Golf Championships in Quebec.

Bonogofski’s name was called to the podium as this year’s recipient of the CCAA’s Exemplary Leadership Award — nearly one year to the day after Schultz experienced the same feeling at Desert Blume Golf Club.

Schultz and Bonogofski both represented the Rattlers at four CCAA Championships, along with the U-Sports Championship as invites last spring. The Exemplary Leadership Award is presented to a student-athlete that demonstrates true character, fair-play, and respect at the national championship.

Mitch Bach of CHAT SPORTS caught up with the two veteran golfers following their trip to Quebec to hear more about their long-lasting careers as Rattlers, and what it’s like to share such a prestigious award with one another.
