Bandits stay undefeated with 3-1 road win in Olds

OLDS, AB – The Brooks Bandits (13-0) got three goals from three different goal scorers, and a 17-save performance from goalie Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON), downing the Olds Grizzlys 3-1 on the road on Friday night.

The win extends their regular season win streak to 46 games dating back to the prior season.

Despite outshooting the Grizzlys 18-5 in the first, the Bandits found themselves locked in a scoreless deadlock after the opening frame. But with Brooks on a 5-on-3 in the second, Randy Hernandez (Miami, FL) opened the scoring with a slap shot from the top of the left circle, extending his goal scoring streak to five games.

Not long after, Daine Milgate of the Grizzlys was awarded a penalty shot after being obstructed on a partial shorthanded breakaway, but his forehand shot was stopped by Charleson to keep his team ahead.

That proved key, as late in the period James McIsaac (Winnipeg, MB) fired a pass from the high slot to a waiting Trey Thomas (Williams Lake, BC) in the slot, who tipped the puck past Grizzly goalie Duncan Hughes to make it 2-0.

In the third, after taking a McIsaac slapshot to the head, Hughes left the game, and was replaced by backup Ty Marcinkowski. The Bandits added a third goal when Chris Pappas (Toronto, ON) sped by a Grizzly defender to get himself a breakaway and flipped a forehand puck past Marcinkowski for a 3-0 lead.

Olds got on the board with 27 seconds left on a wrist shot from the right circle by Kaiden Kanderka, but it would be all the Grizzlys would muster, as the Bandits held on to maintain their undefeated record.

The Bandits next take on the Camrose Kodiaks on the road Saturday night, with pre-game coverage starting at 6:45 PM on Real Country 105.7.
