Council to discuss potential land sale Monday

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat city council says they are considering a sale of land on Primrose Drive.

According to a release from the city sent out at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, council will consider the sale of 352 Primrose Drive Southeast to Connaught Commons Inc. during a city council meeting on October 21.

Connaught Commons Inc. Is an affiliate of Enclave Ventures Inc., who are building the Coulee Ridge Neighbourhood in the city’s southwest.

The release from the city says the sale and pricing strategy for the property was approved by council in May 2019, and an expression of interest (EOI) process was initiated, which outlined site specific design guidelines agreed on by council. The guidelines, the city says, were created to ensure the development would be sensitive and consistent with the appearance of the surrounding neighbourhood.

“The proposed development follows the site specific design guidelines Council outlined earlier this year,” said Grant MacKay, General Manager of Economic Development & Land, in a news release. “These guidelines help to address built-form, design, street interface, construction material quality and landscaping – ensuring appropriate fit with the existing neighborhood.”

The proposed development is called Connaught Commons, and it includes 61 units with a mix of duplexes, townhouses and stacked flats. Each dwelling would have its own separate entrance to the exterior. The release says if the sale is approved, it is expected to close by July 2020.

City council meets Monday at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
