Farm groups disappointed with federal election campaign
The cluster of commodity groups known as Team Alberta says it is disappointed about the lack of discussion of farm issues during the federal election campaign.
In a release, Team Alberta, which includes the Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions, Alberta Pulse Growers, and Alberta Canola, says trade has not been discussed, even though there is a lot of uncertainty in the market. They cite troubles with canola sales to China, barley trade with Saudi Arabia, and selling pulses to India.
It adds this comes on top of what it calls ” an extremely challenging harvest with an estimated $3.6 billion in crop still out.”
Team Alberta says it sent a questionnaire on things like the carbon tax and risk management programs to all major parties. As of Wednesday, the Conservatives and Greens had been the only ones to respond.
