Sep 28, 2019 | 3:00 PM

Medicine Hat, AB – A special weather statement is in effect for Medicine Hat, Cypress County along with portions of the County of Newell, County of Forty Mile and Special Area 2 today.

Environment Canada expects significant snow accumulations with the Cypress Hills expected to be hit with 20 to 30 cm of snow by Monday morning.

Areas around Cypress Hills are currently under a snowfall warning.

The southwestern portion of the province is expected to bear the brunt of the early fall snowstorm with accumulations of between 40 to 50 cm with some areas possibly seeing up to 70 cm.

Environment Canada is warning that poor driving conditions throughout southern Alberta can be expected as well as that heavy wet snow may cause tree branches to break and power outages.

However, Environment Canada expects temperatures to begin to rebound on Monday and by mid-week hit the double digits.
