Alberta Culture Days descends on Hat this weekend

Sep 26, 2019 | 5:37 PM

Alberta Culture Days will descend on Medicine Hat starting Friday night with an array of visual, performance and musical arts to tickle the senses.

The Esplanade will play host to events Friday and Saturday with various downtown venues hosting the Art Walk Friday evening.

Esplanade curator Joanne Marion says Culture Days has been well received in Medicine Hat.

“We’ve had a great variety of events and performances and exhibitions for Culture Days over the past decade,” said Marion. “And it’s been a wonderful opportunity across the province to get people engaged with the arts – all of the arts . . . and just celebrate over the course of the weekend.”

This year, the Esplanade will be hosting three exhibition receptions on the Friday as well as an artist talk, a performance and the latest edition of Pecha Kucha on Saturday.

The Art Walk taking place on Friday night will feature eight different regular venues from the Hive to Inspire Studio along with eight pop-up venues across the downtown.

Xanthe Isbister, curator for the TREX Space, says many of the host venues for the Art Walk will be featuring a number of different artists as well as musicians throughout the evening.

“In general, a lot of the restaurants and coffee shops and different venues will stay open and it’s a huge draw for downtown. It generates some business and just a good energy in the downtown core,” said Isbister.
