MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat is moving to the next phase of construction of First Street Southwest next week.

The project, which has been underway for much of the summer, will shift down the street starting on Monday. The portion of the road affected on the street runs between First Avenue to approximately 100 metres west of Second Avenue.

A map of the affected area can be found here.

As a result, First Street Southwest will be open to local traffic online for approximately seven weeks, weather permitting.

The project involves replacing water and sanitary sewer mains, replace damaged storm sewer catch basins, replacement of concrete curb and gutters where required and improving pedestrian sidewalks and pavement surfaces. Multiple city departments are working on the project at the same time, and in phases in an attempt to minimize disruption on the route.

The city is reminding drivers to obey all signs and drive carefully around workers.
