MEDICINE HAT, AB — On November 17 of last year, the Hat High Hawks completed a renowned, undefeated season by capturing the ASAA Provincial Tier II Bantam Championship.

It was the first time in the program’s history they achieved the feat.

Rest assured, Quinn Skelton was paying attention.

The championship-winning Hawks were loaded with talented Grade 9’s who were anticipating a jump to the senior Mohawks, coached by Skelton.

Entering his 30th year at the helm of the Mohawks, Skelton knows this core group of now-Grade 10’s are special.

20 members of last year’s Hawks club are filling the void of 20 Grade 12’s from last year. Although Skelton’s crew is young, he says they understand the value of hard work and have a desire to win.

That includes starting quarterback Brody Fink, who’s taking on a great deal of responsibility as he enters his freshman campaign. He’ll take the ball as the Mohawks battle the Crescent Heights Vikings on Friday night at the Methanex Bowl (7:00 p.m.).

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports spoke with Fink to hear how he’s adjusting to playing senior high football and what the large crop of Grade 10 players can bring to the team. Plus, Skelton gives his thoughts on the team, and reflects on the past 30 years of Mohawks football.
