Video of MHPS euthanizing deer goes viral

Medicine Hat, AB – A video of city police euthanizing an injured fawn and posted on social media went viral on Friday.

MHPS Chief Andy McGrogan said officers were called by provincial Fish and Wildlife officials to check on the deer and were left with little choice than to euthanize the fawn after it was struck by a car.

“I think our officers did what they could in a bad situation – little deer and it was hit by a vehicle and the deer wasn`t going to recover,“ said McGrogan. “It was in pretty tough shape.“

McGrogan said officers were in contact with a veterinarian regarding euthanizing the deer and the decision was made to do that with a blade rather than a firearm due to the situation unfolding near homes.
