Firefighters respond to reported chemical spill at downtown YMCA

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Firefighters are asking the public to avoid the Downtown YMCA following a reported chemical spill at the building.

The YMCA confirmed a small spill occurred in the building Friday afternoon, causing the downtown YMCA to be evacuated as a precaution.

On its Facebook page, the YMCA says the downtown branch is closed for the evening due to “maintenance issues. “

Firefighters are currently on scene. Access to the YMCA from River Road and The Arena is being blocked while firefighters continue to work.

The YMCA says they hope to reopen for regular hours Saturday.
