NEW YORK, NY – Canada’s Bianca Andreescu made history at the U.S. Open Thursday night.
The 19-year-old from Missassauga, Ontario became the first Canadian to reach a singles final at the U.S. Open, after topping Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in the semifinals (7-6 (3), 7-5).
Andreescu will face Serena Williams in the women’s final on Saturday. The pair previously met in the finals at the Rogers Cup, where Williams had to retire due to injury after four games.
Williams also advanced to the finals Thursday, topping Elina Svitolina in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).
