OTTAWA, ON – Sage Watson has enjoyed the most successful summer of her short professional career and it will continue with a spot at the 2019 IAAF World Championships.

On Friday, Watson was named to Team Canada’s 49 athlete contingent that will represent the maple leaf at the biennial gathering of the world’s top track and field athletes in Doha, Qatar.

Watson will compete in her 400 metre hurdles specialty, along with racing in the women’s 4×400 metre relay and mixed 4×400 metre relay.

The Seven Persons hurdler is coming off her first international gold medal at the professional level, a gold in the 400 metre hurdles at the recent 2019 Pan-Am Games in Lima, Peru.

Watson followed up that gold medal with a silver in the women’s 4×400 metre relay as well, anchoring the final leg for Canada.

This will be Watson’s third trip to the IAAF World Championships, with her best finish coming two years ago with a sixth place result in the 400 metre hurdles in London.

Following her gold and silver medal performances at the Pan-Am Games, Watson is currently ranked 13th in the world in her discipline by the IAAF.

Watson will begin her quest for World Championship gold on September 28 with the mixed 4×400 metre relay, while her individual competition will begin on October 1.
