MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service has charged five youth in Medicine Hat in connection with alleged thefts in Crescent Heights.

According to a news release from police, the arrests were made in connection with an increase in thefts from vehicles in the city’s north east and north west in the past month.

The police service increased patrols in the area, and also received additional tips from the public to help identify the alleged offenders.

Five youths, ranging in age from 14 to 17, have been charged in connection with the incidents. Their names cannot be released due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

According to a news release, the police service, along with Provincial Court, Child and Family Services, the Provincial Crown’s office, the Police and Crisis team and the relevant caregivers will be using a “multi-faceted approach to address the criminal behaviour of those responsible.” The approach will involve curfews, no contact orders, addressing mental health concerns and educating the youth about the impact of their behaviours.
