Medicine Hat, AB – Three years ago, the Medicine Hat College started to focus on studying renewable energy and electric vehicles.

That’s why on Friday, August 30th, they want to share with the community what they’ve learned about making the switch from a gasoline-powered car to an electric one.

Tracy Stroud, manager of business development with the college, says that the purpose of the event is to give people unbiased information about life with electric vehicles.

“We’ve had a number of different innovation projects going on in that regard. So we’ve got some information on some of the pros and cons of electric vehicles and just want to share it with our community.” She said.

For the past year, the college has partnered with Volkswagen.

“They actually gave us an electric vehicle for the year. And so we’ve been having different people drive that vehicle and taking data. Even looking at things like how does cold affect the range or does heat affect the range. So we’re sharing that information.” Stroud said.

There will also be a presentation on government funding incentives for personal and business electric vehicle purchases.

As well people will hear from clean energy groups and a local electric vehicle owner.

Stroud says they won’t just be discussing all the positives, but all aspects of going electric.

“Of course we want it to be unbiased so we’ll be sharing some cons as well. It’s all information and we want to share that.”

People will also be able to learn about how charging stations work and apps to find public stations.

The event begins at 10 a.m.

Those who are interested can register online.
