BEDFORD, NS – Andie Suhai and the rest of Team Alberta will be chasing a national gold medal on Sunday afternoon at the 16U Girls Invitational tournament.

Medicine Hat’s Suhai had two hits and scored two runs for Alberta in a thrilling 10-9 extra innings victory over hosts Nova Scotia 1 in Saturday’s semi-finals to advance to the gold medal game.

Trailing 2-0 after the first two innings, Alberta exploded for seven of their runs in the third and fourth innings to take a stranglehold on the semi-final contest.

Nova Scotia 1 fought back and were able to tie the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings.

With two outs and runners at first and second, Nova Scotia was charged with a fielding error which allowed Brynlee Rice to score the go-ahead run for Alberta.

Alberta’s Madison Quartly was able to punch out Nova Scotia’s Fenway Ryder to end the game, securing a medal for the western club.

Haylee Sidor had three RBIs in the semi-final victory, adding onto a comeback win in the quarter-finals earlier in the day over Quebec 2.

Guaranteed at least a national silver medal, Suhai and Team Alberta will go for gold against Team British Columbia at 3:00 pm.
